Our jobs, family, and hobbies have provided us with opportunities to travel quite a bit. We've really enjoyed these trips, and have been able to schedule some vacation time in with the travel. We've also combined business trips with opportunities to get to know our overseas business colleagues, to spend some time with our French Back-to-Back family in Paris, meet some wonderful cat breeders in Tokyo, meet a philosopher-poet in Bavaria, and the proprietors of a gelato shop in the Netherlands.
I particularly like to get around by foot and public transportation in the places we visit. If we're in a big city, I also try to get to a nearby town (population under 30,000) to see a different aspect of the country or culture.
In comparison with Los Angeles, London and Tokyo, Thousand Oaks is barely a speck on the map, with a population of about 100,000! By comparison, the city of San Francisco is 20% smaller, with a population 8x that of Thousand Oaks.
