The Michigan Dark-Sky Association is the (proposed) Michigan section of the International Dark-Sky Association, a non-profit organization headquartered in Tucson, Arizona. IDA's goals are to be effective in stopping the adverse environmental impact on dark skies by building awareness of the issue of light pollution and of the solutions and in educating about the value and effectiveness of quality nighttime lighting. We believe that we can succeed in preserving dark skies and in improving the nighttime environment for everyone. Quality outdoor lighting is the key. We are making a difference!
Michigan Dark-Sky Association's goals include:
1) Supporting state legislative efforts to control light pollution
2) Sharing information about what has worked on the local level
3) Recruiting support by educational efforts in Michigan astronomy clubs and the general public
